Cluey kids get a boost with an online tutoring platform

Cluey is an online tutoring platform that gives children the opportunity to learn at their own pace.

As part of the Source Kids family, we find that neurodiversity – as wonderful a gift as it is to our children and families – it can present challenges in traditional learning settings.

We have recently had three sessions with the team at Cluey for my daughter who is 8 years of age and going into grade 3 this year. As she has very much struggled with reading and writing since beginning school, I wanted to give her an opportunity for some one on one tutoring to see if this could help her. And, Cluey absolutely delivered!

The team at Cluey contacted me to arrange the best time of day for the sessions to take place and I found that the people I dealt with were very friendly and accommodating when co-ordinating the schedule of sessions.

As my daughter, Jasmine, has learning difficulties (relating to her disability), I did wonder how she would do in the Cluey online environment. The sessions were in the form of one on one learning, which she had never experienced before. Up to this point Jasmine has mostly contended with large groups of children, with one teacher and one teacher aide for the entire class.

The online environment was exactly what Jasmine needed – an interactive, one on one, gentle yet firm approach. One, where she wasn’t distracted and felt comfortable as she was in her own home.

Our tutor, Dale, was able to hone right in to what Jasmine needed assistance with.  He began with simple concepts so that Jasmine was set up to succeed from the very beginning . The focus of giving everything a try was the confidence builder she needed to realise she could have a go at more developed concepts. 

During all three sessions, Dale encouraged Jasmine to have the movement breaks she needed when she began to lose focus. This allowed her to be comfortable within herself, as she was aware that she would not be punished for needing the movement breaks she so needs to learn!

Her confidence improved after that very first session, and together with the following two sessions, I have seen an increase in her willingness to give everything a go. The transformation in her attitude towards learning resulted in positive self-talk, which has been a huge turn around for her.

Cluey will definitely now be a part of Jasmine’s education now on a weekly basis!
