ABC launches Auslan accessible preschool content on ABC iview
Families with deaf or hard-of-hearing children are about to get a welcome boost to their viewing options, with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation announcing that Auslan versions of several much-loved preschool shows are coming to ABC iview.
From 13 April 2026, children will be able to watch Auslan-accessible episodes of favourites including Bluey, Gardening Australia Junior, Ginger and the Vegesaurs, Kangaroo Beach, Fizzy & Suds and Knee High Spies. Another new preschool series, Flower & Flour, will also receive the Auslan treatment later in the year.
The new collection marks the first time Auslan, the sign language of the Australian Deaf community, has been built into the ABC’s preschool streaming content in this way. The broadcaster already offers closed captioning and audio description across its platforms, and says the addition of Auslan is another step towards making its children’s content easier for more families to enjoy together.
Jennifer Collins, Director of Screen at the ABC, said the move is about making sure all young viewers feel included.
“We’re delighted to bring Auslan to our children’s programming on ABC iview, and to create a more accessible, inclusive and connected experience for all young Australians as they enjoy our much-loved children’s content,” she said.
The first Auslan-accessible episodes will premiere on iview on 13 April, and the ABC says more preschool titles, series and episodes will continue to be added each year.
